A good update. Now you can edit Microsoft Office files from Gmail. The new feature allows users to automatically open and edit Office files with Google Drive.

The company wrote on a Google+ post says “We realize that as a Docs user, you still sometimes have to work with different file types, so we often launch updates to make it a little smoother for you. It’s now even easier for you to edit Office files where you often come across them—as attachments in your email.”
“With just one click on the new edit icon in Gmail attachments, you can automatically convert Office documents.”
Google also added support for 15 new Microsoft Office file types like dot, dotx, dotm*, docm* conversions to Google Docs, xlt, xltx, xltm*, xlsm* conversions to Google Sheets and pot, potx, potm*, pptm*, pps, ppsx, ppsm* conversions to Google Slides.
